James Corden and Martin Short Made Famous Films Inappropriate Musicals

How many times have you been sitting on your couch watching Goodfellas when you thought to yourself, “This would be the perfect movie to adapt to a Broadway musical?”

Zero times, right? You’ve had that thought zero times, because Goodfellas is a horrible choice for a musical, for a lot of reasons. However, all those same reasons are what made it just perfect for The Late Late Show with James Corden‘s segment, “Inappropriate Musicals.”

Corden was joined by Martin Short in an extended and impressive segment to create upbeat song and dance numbers of iconic scenes from Goodfellas, The Revenant, and Gladiator, none of which had any relation in tone or mood to the original films.

The most famous moment of Joe Pesci‘s career, the “What do you mean I’m funny?” scene, became a Grease-style song, with Short in the role of Pesci’s Tommy.

You think I’m funny, how?
Am I a clown to you?
You think I’m funny, how?
What’s that supposed to mean?

For The Revenant, Corden played the bear, who instead of attacking Short, joined him in a dance number that brought the two close together, but in a much different way than Leo experienced.

Finally, “Are you not entertained?” became the basis for a feel good song about the value of entertainment these days. Short and Corden were joined by Will Arnett as Commodus, who caved in to the chorus’s pleas to let Corden live.

Needless to say, we were, in fact, entertained. Although, we are definitely going to have “Are you not entertained?” stuck in our head for the rest of the day.

What would be the perfect movie for them to use the next time? It would only be appropriate for you to tell us your answer in the comments below.
