  1. Malpaso says:

Gourley and I would have some animated Bond discussions…I don’t get so many of his opinions.

  2. JaredTiconderoga says:

What was the name of that website with a drink for each movie?

  3. Hort says:

To be fair to British people, they wouldn’t mispronounce Disneyland since Disney is originally a British surname.

  4. Robert says:

(I lieu of Wilhelm Scream) “Noooooo…!” I get that you don’t want to tackle the films in order but I think a more logical way to go, and still be able to move about the list in an non-linear way, would be to do a kind of round robin of the different Bonds but always starting with each actor’s debut film and then their next film each time you come back to that actor (in a kind of “when last we saw [actor] he was…” way). This way you could discuss each actor’s introduction to the series first and then somewhat follow their arc (maybe better to say “growth in the role”). This would also allow you to bounce around to whatever actor you wanted to on the next show and, spacing them correctly, never have to repeat an actor in back-to-back episodes and definitely not end up with all the Moore’s at the end of the run.

Anyway, just a suggestion. I’ll be listening either way. Looking forward to the eps to come,
    Robert

*ps — just wrote this up and then, before hitting ‘Post’, read Chris’s near-identical post above. posting anyway, in case this has the potential to trend. (haha)

  5. Barry says:

You mentioned Lazenby as the biggest fashion victim of the Bond series. Did you forget about the ridiculous suits Connery wore in Diamonds Are Forever? The pink bib-sized tie in the Bambi and Thumper scene or the brown plaid blazer in another scene. Also, don’t forget the mutant butterfly bow ties.

  6. ToddS says:

If you want to switch it up during the stretch of Moore films, maybe cover the Peter Sellers/Woody Allen Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again?

  7. Chris says:

Probably too late, but in terms of how to order the show:

Why not start with the first Connery film (as you did) then move to the first Moore film, then the first Dalton film, then the first Brosnan film, then the first Craig film? Then rewind back to the second Connery film, then the second Moore film, etc, etc.

That way, you’re still (sort of) going in chronological order, and you’ll be able to track the evolution of each actor in the role over time.

I know you’ll run out of Craig films quickly, but you’ve still got Lazenby to stick in there somewhere.

  8. -Di. says:

    Dear Matt and Matt,

Thank you for doing this podcast! I’ve grown up watching James Bond but never had the time to really look into the details of it. I really look forward to hearing more information.

I love the chemistry between the two of you! The two of you remind me of Ken Ray and John Champion of the Mission Log Podcast.

Like Mission Log you could do the movies in order. But I like the order you guys are planning on doing the films!

    I’m really excited!

    Thank you again!
    -Diane.

  9. LevelledUp says:

I agree with others that you should do them in order. Other than that this is a really good podcast so far. Bring back Tompkins as often as you can without annoying him. 😉

  10. Dan W says:

I’m guessing that you have made up your minds about the order in which to handle the movies. But if not, How about going by the Rotten Tomatoes ratings and then alternating between the best and worst Bond films. That should keep you from having long streaks of the same Bond actor and you get to enjoy both the best and worst of the Bond films up front.

  11. Wildride says:

In Baccarat, you want to get the highest count — In Mod 10. A 5 and a 4 is 9, but a 5 and a 5 is zero. A 7 and a 6 is worth 3. If any player is dealt an 8 or a 9, the one with the higher number wins automatically. Otherwise the players may optionally take a third card. Highest score wins. The betting is more complicated.

  12. Jason says:

How about having an estimated body count of people killed in each film?

  13. Jake says:

Not sure I like the order you’ve come up with. It makes more sense to talk about things in order because you can discuss how the actor/director/whatever changed since the one before it. This is especially interesting with things like Quantum being a sequel to Casino. Or, I mean, it’s a bummer to start talking about how Brosnan sucks before talking about how the first two were actually pretty good.

  14. James Clark says:

    Dear Matt and Matt,

The gun used in the Connery era posters was a Walther LP53. It was used because the PPK was not available. The LP53 was used in the posters for, From Russia With Love,Goldfinger,Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice. The gun was sold in 2010 for £277,250 (around $430,000)

    Sincerely,

    Your Makeshift Q, James.

  15. Nick says:

@Dan – This episode is just an introduction, so you can listen to it without watching the films before hand.

  16. mikestir says:

You should check out the nowplayingpodcast.com 007 retrospective they did last year. Very on point. Good Luck.

  17. Evan says:

Not too familiar with Matt Gourley’s work but since I recently watched Drunken History I knew he is a funny drunk. I will be checking out more of his body of work here on in. You made a new fan sir!

  18. Mike Vannorman says:

I hope you guys talk about the 007 videogames. Really psyched about this podcast!

  19. Patrick says:

    woo-hoo

  20. Christopher says:

    HOLYFUCKINGSHIT MIRA LOOKIN GOOD

  21. Joshua Bryan Hammack says:

Bring it on. Bring it on. I would maybe add how the time of that film’s era influenced the subject matter of the film, as a subject or segment if you will.

  22. rob says:

Really psyched about this. Love the ordering idea.

  23. Dan says:

Is this going to be like a movie club? I’ve only seen a handful of Bond films, but I’ve liked what I’ve seen and I enjoy listening to Matt Mira talk about shit. Are there certain films I should watch before listening to this episode to maximize my enjoyment of Matt and Matt?

  24. Kristoffer says:

I like my Mira shaken, not stirred.
