Jake Gyllenhaal’s NIGHTCRAWLER Adds LinkedIn to its Social Platforms

Whether you look down your nose at ambulance-chasers or not, you can’t say that Jake Gyllenhaal‘s Nightcrawler isn’t out there trying to get a job. Lou Bloom, the fictional character at the center of the upcoming thriller, has added the tireless invite-sender to his social media portfolio. If you don’t believe us, here’s a screen shot for you:

The go-getter includes a nice little corporate summary about his work ethic and a disturbingly intense video resume we will share with you below. In case you were wondering, because it’s not clear in this profile, Lou Bloom is, as we mentioned above, actually a glorified ambulance-chaser. Unlike the legal kind that pray on medical malpractice cases, he chases down the gory, sensational, and tragic stories happening in Los Angeles after dark, records them, and sells them to the highest bidding news station. The trailers showcase an intense and driven young man who dives right into Los Angeles’ seedy underbelly, and so far Nightcrawler seems like a thriller that may just become a classic in the years to come.

What do you think? Is this the face of a classic character in the making?

The role of social media in film releases and plots has morphed in recent years from a traditional marketing ploy to fully developed transmedia partnerships between writers, producers, actors and their audiences. We’re more familiar with seeing a character take to Twitter or Tumblr – just look at the success of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries – than LinkedIn, but we have to admit we’re fascinated by the tone that whatever marketing guru behind the scenes has cooked up for Lou Bloom’s profiles. His LinkedIn reads pretty narcissistically accurate for the generation; his YouTube lacks a profile picture; his Twitter profile (granted it’s not verified but the branding is on point) is in line with a young professional, though we question his inclusion of his phone number in a post. He even has a hashtag!

Will LinkedIn join the ranks of other social networks that welcome fictional characters? Who are you hoping to see pop up there next? Tell us in the comments below!

Nightcrawler opens October 31, 2014 in the US.

I missed it because in looks as if Linkedin took the page down.
All you get is this message:
“Sorry, this profile couldn’t be displayed.
