Jack White, music’s biggest vinyl nerd, and his Third Man Records are always trying exciting things with the medium, from allowing fans to record on the same equipment Elvis Presley used to hiding a bonus record inside the packaging of their vinyl re-release of Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. While their record obsession pays homage to the past, they announced a move today that will help ensure vinyl has a future: Third Man Records and Light in the Attic Records are trying to get the kids involved with a children’s turntable and compilation LP, titled This Record Belongs To __________.
The compilation features vintage tracks from Shel Silverstein, Jerry Garcia and, of course, Kermit The Frog. The record is accompanied by a book that is described as telling “the tale of five forest pals who find a mysterious objectâa round, flat disc that they proceed to investigate. The animal friends finally solve the mystery and learn how to play a record and let their bodies move to the groove (within the grooves).”
The package is currently available for pre-order here. Check out the tracklist below, and revisit the joy Kermit The Frog’s “Rainbow Connection”, from 1979’s The Muppets Movie and the closing track of this compilation.
