J.J. Abrams Admits STAR TREK Mistakes

While the rest of the world is busy focusing on his other Star-related movie project (which is in theaters RIGHT NOW OMG), J.J. Abrams took some time to talk to BuzzFeed about his experience working on the Star Trek reboots, specifically the much-lamented sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. After totally nailing the Star Trek film franchise reboot in 2009, fans of J.J. and The Federation alike were disappointed with the way Into Darkness played out, most arguing it was a poorly written remake that borrowed too much from the plot of The Wrath of Khan, and worse yet, failed to cite its sources. Well now Abrams is repenting, taking the time to address the ways he fell short when developing the Benedict Cumberbatch-filled flick.

Join Jessica Chobot as we break down what Abrams had to say about the Trek films he directed and how director Justin Lin dealt with the botched Into Darkness as he filmed Star Trek Beyond, on today’s Nerdist News.

In case you missed it, check out the new episode of Because Science, where Kyle Hill explains the science behind how Kylo Ren’s much-debated “crossguard” lightsaber actually works.

Let us know in the comments below what you thought of Star Trek Into Darkness, if you think J.J. has atoned for his sins, and if you’re excited to see Justin Lin take on the franchise!
