It’s a WICKED Good Return Duet for Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel

We’re melting! We’re melting! What a world…in which we can see the original two stars of Wicked come together again.

The official Wicked YouTube channel has been running a series called “Out of Oz: Wicked Studio Sessions,” in which various show alumni record new versions of the classic tunes, like Aaron Tveit bringing a male vocal to “Popular.” But in this take on “For Good,” no new spin is needed. The reunion of Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba, some thirteen years since they first belted out the tune, is the only special effect that matters. Like the witches of Oz in the Stephen Schwartz/Winnie Holzman musical, they are who they are because they’ve known each other. Unlike them…they are evidently not parting ways for good. Menzel’s making a habit of coming back to things after singing songs about leaving; after all, Frozen‘s Elsa didn’t permanently “Let It Go” either.

We’d call the following a “fun fact” except that it really isn’t all that fun: Chenoweth also sang “For Good” at the funeral of John Spencer, her fellow cast member on The West Wing. She also sang it on one of the Oprah farewell shows, and with Lea Michele at the Hollywood Bowl in 2014. Menzel’s been busy winning an Oscar and having her name mangled by John Travolta, so it’s good to see them find time to shower us with witches.

Does seeing them together again make your heart defy gravity? Are you A Sentimental Man, or Not That Girl? Let us know what Wicked songs you’d like to see re-done in comments below.
