It’s A ‘Mad World’ with Postmodern Jukebox & Puddles the Clown

Postmodern Jukebox can do no wrong in our opinion, and nothing proves it more than when they team up with what would otherwise be a terrifying giant clown. Scott Bradlee and the PMJ crew have collaborated with Michael Geier (otherwise known as Puddles the Clown) in the past with their covers of Sia’s “Chandelier” and Lorde’s “Royals“. This time they’ve teamed up along with singer, PMJ alum and former American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart to give us a hauntingly beautiful rendition of “Mad World”.

If you’re anything like us, your mind immediately may associate the song with the somber version by Gary Jules’ featured in the 2001 film Donnie Darko, however, the original Tears for Fears song is from all the way back in 1982. As with most PMJ covers (and perhaps Jules’ one as well) it is an example of good song writing that allows these songs to be listenable even today. The fact that there’s a cover of a 30+ year song done today in a style nearly a century old is pretty damn awesome. It also doesn’t hurt that the song itself is kind of perfect for the “Sad Clown With The Golden Voice“.

Postmodern Jukebox is currently on tour in the U.S. and their already extensive catalog of songs can be found here.

What’s your favorite PMJ song so far? What songs would you like to see them do in the future? Is it weird that clowns still kind of creep us out? Of course it isn’t! Clowns are creepy! We’ve gotten off topic here. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
