Isabelle Fuhrman, Stacy Keach Added to Feature Adaptation of Stephen King’s CELL

This morning, Variety reported that The Hunger Games and Orphan actress Isabelle Fuhrman and veteran character actor Stacy Keach, most recently seen in Nebraska, have joined the cast of Cell, the cinematic adaptation of horror master Stephen King’s 2006 zombie novel of the same name. She joins a cast that already includes John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. According to Variety, Fuhrman will play “a teenage neighbor of Cusack’s Clay Riddell character who joins him and Jackson’s Tom McCourt character on their journey to safety after a mysterious pulse spreads like a virus through the human population.” Keach will portray a headmaster.

Cusack and Jackson previously starred in another Stephen King adaptation, 1408. For horror fans that haven’t seen the film, you most definitely should.

Cell is being directed by Paranormal Activity 2 director Tod Williams from a screenplay written by King himself and Adam Alleca. It has begun production in Atlanta.

When the novel came out in 2006, zombies were taking over the horror genre. 28 Days Later had been a hit a few years earlier, as had Zack Snyder’s directorial debut, the Dawn of the Dead remake. Around the time Eli Roth abandoned his plans to direct the film in 2009, we had seen 28 Weeks Later and Zombieland come and go. Slated for a 2015 release, almost 10 years and countless zombies have passed from the novel’s debut to the film’s premiere. Do you think zombies still be interesting to a movie going audience by the time the movie comes out? Let us know in the comments below!
