There’s a problem in Termina other than a menacing moon under destructive orders from an imp — it doesn’t look like, at least realistically, that a heavenly body that size could cause the damage it does.

Astrophysicist Gabe Perez-Giz, PBS, and the wonderfully geeky YouTube channel Space Time have a theory that’s a bit more complicated than a rock with a grin slowly crashing into Clock Town. Based on estimated measurements, Perez-Giz figures that to produce the levitating rocks and general disaster that players see if they let Link’s 72 hours run out, the moon needs to be more massive than either its size or the density of rocks allow.

Instead, the moon in Majora’s Mask needs gravity that not even a neutron star could provide. Perez-Giz’s solution? The moon is a shell surrounding a miniature black hole.
