Last year, Gilmore Girls fans got exactly what they were hoping for with a surprisingly excellent revival season that seemed to supply satisfying conclusions for most of the main characters’ storylines. Now, there are rumors that the show might be up for more episodes. But have fans already gotten everything they wanted?
No. We want more. And we want it now.
The original WB series ran from 2000 to 2007, with the show’s creator Amy Sherman-Palladino being cut out of the final season–thereby shafting the “four words” ending she had planned since the show’s inception. Netflix stepped in last year with the four-part Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, which caught up with America’s favorite mother/daughter/grandmother team and tore everyone apart just to put them back together again.
For fans, the Netflix series provided a chance to return to magical Stars Hollow and get small glimpses at the post-script journey for all the town’s favorite minor characters. The show also married off its central couple, gave closure on a major death, and, unfortunately, proved that Rory was actually a pretty terrible journalist.
So what story is left to tell? Well, there are the ramifications of those “four words” left to contend with, and of course Amy Sherman-Palladino is a master storyteller who always has new tricks up her sleeve. So that’s why this recent news is particularly exciting. Chief content officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, told the UK Press Association (courtesy of Cosmopolitan) that the studio is in talks with the show’s creators about making another series.
“We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped,” Sarandos said. “The worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favorite show to come back and for it to disappoint you, but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more and we have been talking to them about the possibility of that.”
Sarandos went on to say that all of these talks are still very “preliminary.” But why wouldn’t Netflix want to make more of the show? It was a critical hit with a hugely dedicated base of fans, and if they can pull it off, Netflix can keep printing their own money. From a business standpoint, it’s a slam dunk.
So what do you think? Do you need more Gilmore Girls in your life, or is the story done for you? What would you like to see if they do journey back to Stars Hollow? Can Hep Alien get into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame? Is the baby daddy going to turn out to be the Chewbacca cosplayer that made for the show’s weirdest sexual aside? Does this cast have it in them to come together for another run after how difficult it was to arrange the last revival? Sound off in the comments below to let us know much you want to revisit the life of the Gilmore clan.
