Is Alfred Getting a Batman Spin-off in PENNYWORTH?

Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth just doesn’t get the attention he deserves. He’s got all the gadgets ready for Bruce Wayne’s midnight jaunts as Batman, he services the Batmobile, acts as a moral compass and father figure–he even cleans out that sweaty Batsuit. He does so much for the caped crusader and what does he get in return? A couple scenes in a couple films. Even Jeremy Irons, who will play the role in the upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has said that his role is pretty small. Well, it looks like Alfred is going to get a little screen time of his own. DC has registered the trademark Pennyworth for what might be a new TV series based on the butler.

There is little other information available. It could be a spin-off set around Sean Pertwee‘s Alfred from the series Gotham, though that seems unlikely since that show is still going strong. It also probably won’t involve Irons, since the DC TV and film universes are separate. (At least for now.) It’s possible that a series could center around his daughter in the comics, Julia Pennyworth, and we could definitely use some more female-led superhero series. However, we’re guessing that, if this goes through, it would be an origin story for the famous butler. In most versions of his story, Alfred is a retired intelligence agent and even has seen battle in some. It could be a detective-style show or, perhaps, something James Bond-inspired featuring a younger version of Alfred. That could certainly work as well as seeing Jarvis in Marvel‘s Agent Carter, which is to say, very well indeed.

Would you be interested in seeing an Alfred origin story? Would you rather see what Julia Pennyworth is up to? Or would an animated series work better? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
