Iron Maiden Are Getting Their Own RPG, LEGACY OF THE BEAST

Katy Perry has her own iPhone game, but soon, so will another musician, although it might not be who you expect. It also might be exactly who you expect, since we’re assuming you read the headline of this story.

Iron Maiden has been working with Roadhouse Interactive and 50cc Games on Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, an RPG based on the mythology of the band. Specifically, the protagonist of the game will be the band’s mascot Eddie, who will have multiple forms, each with its own specific gameplay characteristics, and will be sent on a quest for his soul. According to the game’s website, “A mysterious force has shattered Eddie’s soul and scattered the shards. Travel through time and space collecting the pieces as you encounter a cast of dramatic and engaging characters.”

The game is also slated to feature some never-before-heard music from the band: Roadhouse Interactive says on their website that they were “granted unparalleled access to the Maiden vaults in order to create a truly authentic Iron Maiden game,” and have been working with the band’s management for over a year.

Bassist Steve Harris said the band has been considering starring in their own video game since 1999: “We know many of our fans are gamers and we have long thought that Eddie and Maiden’s music and imagery would be perfect for this. It’s something we have been looking at revisiting since Ed Hunter way back in 1999. Now in 2016 it can all be done on a smartphone so it makes it even more accessible for Maiden fans everywhere and also all the gamers out there.”

The game doesn’t yet have a firm release date, but it is scheduled to become available for iOS and Android devices this summer. Do you think you’ll save some real estate on your phone for Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast? Let us know what you think in the comments!
