“Good is dumb,” but Mel Brooks’ classic Star Wars parody Spaceballs definitely isn’t, which is why we wanted to have some fun recreating one of our favorite scenes from the film. But not just anybody can fill the evil shoes of Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz, which is why we needed help from someoneârather, some alienâwith extensive world-conquering experience. So who better than Invader Zim himself?
Richard Horvitz, the voice of Zim, was the latest guest to stop by our Alpha series Talkin’ Toons, and he and host Rob Paulsen got super villain silly reading the scene from Spaceballs in which Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz hit “Ludicrous Speed.” We had Horvitz sub in Zim (and in a little Billy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) for the real brains of the operation, Sandurz, while Rob filled in for Rick Moranis’ Dark Helmet with his Christopher Walken impression.
If we ever do get that Spaceballs sequel we’ve always wanted, Invader Zim would be right at home in a cameo. If you want to see full episodes of Talkinâ Toons you can only find them at our online Alpha community, where we have tons of other great shows for you. And if youâre not already a member, your first 30 days are free when you sign up!
Don’t waitâhit “Ludicrous Speed” and get in on the fun now.
What other would-be conqueror could fill in for Dark Helmet? What other super villain could Invader Zim take over for? Tell us your best ideas in the comments below.
