INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE Author Anne Rice Reveals Who She’d Like to Play Lestat Next

Anne Rice is the horror author responsible for the “Vampire Chronicles,” a series of novels revolving around the life and times of vampires, specifically the vampire Lestat, who was most famously brought to life by Tom Cruise in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire starring Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst. During production, Rice was notoriously outspoken about her disapproval of Cruise’s casting. However, she later changed her tune after she saw the film, writing an open letter celebrating his performance. The role was brought to life once again years later by Stuart Townsend in Queen of the Damned.

Last week, Rice announced a new entry in the “Vampire Chronicles” titled “Prince Lestat.” Due out this fall, she has wasted no time revealing who she’d like to play the “Brat Prince,” as Rice so lovingly refers to the title character.

After asking fans on her Facebook page who they’d like to see play the part next, she weighed in herself, saying that she’d like to see a superhero of sorts take on the role. Wrote Rice, “I love all the Lestats you’re posting on the page, the handsome actors and charmers. But let us not forget Chris Hemsworth who has Lestat’s square face, cheerful eyes, and voice. And let us not forget Stephen Amell either who also greatly resembles Lestat and has the body and face of a god; and also Anson Mount who seemed at times to be Lestat prowling the frontier in Hell on Wheels.”

Those names are definitely a different take on the character than Tom Cruise or Stuart Townsend. I’d love to see Chris Hemsworth take on the role. What about you? Who do you think Hollywood should cast as Lestat in the inevitable “Vampire Chronicles” reboot? Let us know in the comments below.
