Inked Wednesday #24 – ORPHAN BLACK, SUPER MARIO BROS., Captain Marvel, & More

Did you know you can sometimes get tattoos at conventions? I don’t mean at tattoo conventions, I mean at nerdy conventions. Star Wars Celebration Anaheim just released their list of participating artists for what has become the traditional tattoo pavilion at the gathering. It sounds like a weird idea to get a tattoo outside of a shop, but you can do so as long as you take steps ahead of time.

Before booking an appointment (which you’ll want to do before the convention), check out each artist’s portfolio. If people don’t have an online portfolio or a way of showing you their work before the convention, I’d pass. Also, ask questions. Lots of them. Use social media to ask others if they have any experience getting tattoos at conventions and ask the tattoo artist the procedure for keeping things sterile in such a different location. Once at the convention, take a good look around the tattooing area and try to observe the tattoo artist in action before your appointment. I would personally rather get ink in a permanent shop, but I think as long as you take precautions and use common sense it’s okay to go this way too.

As ever, if you’re in need of some geek ink inspiration, check out the latest Inked Wednesday. This week’s gallery features Princess Sparklefists herself, Captain Marvel, TARDISes, and more!

Mario Riding Yoshi + NES controller on the same tattoo? Someone is going try-hard retro without actually knowing what they’re about.
