INJUSTICE 2 Gameplay Trailer Confirms New Characters

This past week, NetherRealm released the announcement trailer for Injustice 2, the sequel to the 2013 hit Injustice: Gods Among Us. The trailer, like most announcements, was more cinematic, giving us a feel for the tone of the game rather than actual gameplay.

Today at the MKX Pro League Season 3 finals on Twitch, the game studio released the official gameplay trailer for this much-anticipated follow-up, shown here on Machinima’s YouTube channel. Fans were not only treated to Supergirl, who was shown in the previous trailer, but new characters as well. Atrocitus, the leader of the Red Lanterns, along with his feline friend Dex-Starr, made their debut. Also confirmed for the game are the Flash’s arch-nemesis Gorilla Grodd and Aquaman’s mortal enemy Black Manta.

As far as gameplay itself, a lot of the major aspects of the game still seem to be there. The environment transitions are still present, as well as the cinematic finishing moves. Let me just say that if you thought the shark Aquaman uses to attack you in the first game was big…

New features were shown as well. The first trailer showed that each character will “armor-up” during the game, and now we get to see this with both Superman and Batman.

I’m a big fan of the environment transitions and the looks of both Atrocitus and Grodd. I do think the facial graphics of the human characters look a little flat, but with the game not set for release until 2017, there will be plenty of time to make improvements.

According to NetherRealm director Ed Boon, more new characters and a bigger roster will be part of the game, with more to be revealed this week at E3.

So what do you think? Are you excited for Injustice 2? What other characters would you like to see in the game? What else are you expecting from E3 this week? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
