INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE Super Bowl Trailer Reschedules the Invasion

Twenty years ago, during the events of Independence Day, the people of Earth united against an alien invasion and the fourth of July became a global holiday. Shortly thereafter, mankind had an unprecedented level of cooperation as they made plans to defend the world against any further threats.

Well…that was fun while it lasted. But the aliens have returned in Independence Day: Resurgence, and the apocalypse is back on! And man…do they seem pissed. Even Earth’s reverse engineered alien tech can’t seem to match up to the second wave of invaders, and the aliens have probably inoculated their mothership against any Mac programs too! Although, Windows 10 could probably still crash the mothership. We should try that.

During Super Bowl 50, Twentieth Century Fox dropped the new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, which escalated the destructive force of the aliens while offering a glimpse of the returning characters and a new generation of heroes. Will Smith’s Steven Heller won’t save the human race this time. Instead, that burden falls to Steven’s stepson, Dylan Dubrow-Hiller (Jessie Usher), ace fighter pilot Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth), and Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson, who has parlayed his war hero status into his current gig as the Director of Earth Space Defense. Even Bill Pullman is back as former President Thomas J. Whitmore, but can anything Whitmore says live up to the speech he gave in the first ID4?

Independence Day: Resurgence invades movie theaters on June 24.
