The INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE Cast on What They’d Do in an Alien Invasion

How we behave in times of crisis speaks volumes. When the going gets tough, our lizard brains take over and we’re faced with making that big visceral choice: fight or flight. And don’t lie—if you’re anything like me, you have spent countless hours wondering how you would handle yourself in all manner of high-stakes situations that we see in pop culture. For Will Smith in the original Independence Day, his answer to an invading alien force was sucker punching the tentacled intruder and snarkily remarking, “Welcome to Earth.” Personally speaking, I wouldn’t have nearly as much aplomb in that kind of situation; I’d probably have my face torn off by the aliens, which wouldn’t be pretty to see. Unless you’re a big fan of Attack on Titan, but even then it’d be pretty foul.

Now with an Independence Day sequel on the way—better known as Independence Day: Resurgence—I’ll be contemplating my fictional fate all over again. Rather than letting my imagination run wild, I decided to pose the question to those who have been immersing themselves in this world: the cast of Independence Day: Resurgence. While visiting the set of IDR last year, I sat down with Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Sela Ward, Maika Monroe, and Jessie Usher to find out what their first move would be in the increasingly likely event of an alien invasion. See what they had to say for themselves, and then be sure to let us know what your alien invasion survival tactics would be in the comments below!

Independence Day: Resurgence opens on June 24, 2016.
