If Werner Herzog Had Made ANT-MAN

By his very nature, Ant-Man, in either his Scott Lang or Hank Pym iterations, has to be in some way in tune with the natural world. He can speak to and control ants, one of the most complex societies in the insect kingdom, and just in life on Earth full stop. They have to be simpatico with creatures generally considered “lesser” than humanity, and, despite the suit, he’s still incredibly vulnerable and dependent. So, of course, who better to make a movie about this character than the filmmaker who consistently talks about how much he hates and fears nature, Mr. Werner Herzog?

YouTuber Patrick (H) Willems, the man behind the ingenious video about what if X-Men had been made by Wes Anderson, asks the deep question full of existential dread: What if Werner Herzog had directed Ant-Man? Well, the answer is deep and full of existential dread, too. Not because of anything Scott Lang does, but because Herzog is a-scared of nature.

The parody has Lang walking around a seemingly normal grassy area, in his ant-size of course, while Herzog narrates in his own inimitable style, which usually involves calling animals monsters. And no Herzog-related spoof would be complete without a cameo from the animal Herzog hates and fears the most, the chicken. Herzog himself once said: “Look into the eyes of a chicken and you will see real stupidity. It is a kind of bottomless stupidity, a fiendish stupidity. They are the most horrifying, cannibalistic, and nightmarish creatures in the world.”

Sooo, yeah, it’s pretty nuts.
