Due to the unfortunate circumstances of that pesky thing we call “reality”, the winning cast of this past summer’s Ghostbusters reboot won’t ever be able to team up with the the original Ghostbusters crew, at least not with all of them, or as the characters they originally portrayed. However, that’s only in the world of the live-action films– In the world of comic books, anything is possible, as we are about to find out in 2017.
IDW Comics‘ line of Ghostbusters comics are about to introduce some new characters straight out of the 2016 movie, as Abby, Patty, Erin and Holtzmann join forces with Winston, Egon, Ray and Venkman for a new series called Ghostbusters 101, coming from writer Erik Burnham and artists Dan Schoening and Luis Antonio Delgado.
The new series arrives in March of next year, and you can read the official description from the publisher, as well as see your very first teaser art for the series, down below:
âLetâs Do The Space-Warp Again!â Before they began investigating the supernatural, most of the original Ghostbusters were teachers… and theyâve decided itâs time they start sharing their knowledge again. But when their first batch of students start poking around the firehouse and accidentally set in motion the merging of two universes (itâs easier than youâd think) Venkman, Stantz, Zeddemore, and Spengler will need all the help they can get to put things right! And who do you think will Answer The Call? (If you guessed Holtzmann, Yates, Tolan, and Gilbert… you get a gold star!) Itâs a brand new inter-dimensional meeting of the minds, starting here!”
In a statement, writer Erik Burnham said of the new series âthis is it. A meeting of the teams. I can honestly say that itâs something a ton of fans have been demanding since the very hint of a new Ghostbusters movie; I get asked at cons and social media a lot: when will there be a crossover? Well now I can give an answer: in 2017. And Iâm so excited for it — introducing these characters to each other and letting their individual quirks mix? Just going by past crossovers, thatâs a whole lot of fun.”
Burnham added “It was those past crossovers, in fact, that inspired Ghost Corps to ask for our 2017 story — which had been about Ray, Peter, and Egon returning to their roots as teachers — to include the crew from the latest movie… and to be honest, that presented us with so many possibilities, itâll be more a question of what can be cut so that we donât run out of space!”
Artist  Dan Schoening is equally thrilled in taking part in this series, saying “since 1984, I’ve been a huge fan of Ghostbusters. Through the years we’ve seen many different variations and expansions on the classic premise of hunting ghosts with proton packs, from The Real Ghostbusters in 1986 to Ghostbusters the video game in 2009. In 2016, we were treated to a new perspective that has added even more mythos to the Ghostbusters lore, with Ghostbusters: Answer The Call. I for one couldn’t be more excited to have the privilege and opportunity to help introduce Patty, Erin, Abby, Jillian and Kevin to the IDW Ghostbusters comic books. Now, let’s bust some heads… in a spiritual sense of course.”
Ghostbusters 101 will retail for $3.99, and  hits comic book shops on March 22, 2017.
