For years, Hasbro has made no secret about its intentions to bring its various toylines together for a new Hasbro Cinematic Universe. But this fall, IDW Publishing is beating them to the punch!
Via Entertainment Weekly, IDW has announced a bi-weekly five issue miniseries called Revolution, which will bring together the characters from G.I. Joe, Transformers, Micronauts, ROM, and Action Man while serving as introduction to M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand). Following the Revolution event, all of those titles will be relaunched in a shared universe with new #1s.
However, IDW editor-in-chief Chris Ryall went out of his way to insist that this was not a reboot of IDWâs continuity for these titles. âWe didnât want this to be what fans have seen from so many others, which is a reboot or a relaunch where youâre asked to forget about all these characters and stories youâve been following for years,” Ryall told EW. “Itâs just now everybody will be acknowledging each other in a much greater way than ever before.”
Cullen Bunn and John Barber will co-write Revolution, which will feature Fico Ossio as the primary artist. The Revolution storyline will revolve around a new form of the Transformersâ Energon called Ore 13, which adversely affects ROM and the Micronauts. Itâs not clear how the G.I. Joe team and Action Man figure into that, but the transforming vehicles in M.A.S.K. will probably be used as the intersection of G.I. Joe and Transformers technology.
Revolution will be published in September.
