Idris Elba may be headlining the cinematic adaptation of Stephen Kingâs The Dark Tower, but he will be coming back to television in the near future! Elba has signed on to star in and executive produce Guerrilla, a six-part event miniseries on Showtime.
According to Deadline, Guerrilla will be a collaboration between Showtime and the British network Sky Atlantic, with American Crime creator and 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley as the driving creative force behind the miniseries. Guerrilla will chronicle the rarely told story of the â70s Black Power movement in the United Kingdom as the story focuses on a politically active couple who become radicalized in their quest to bring down a counter-intelligence unit bent on destroying âall forms of black activism.â
âItâs been a long time desire of mine to collaborate with Mr. Ridley and his work here is nothing short of a masterclass in character building and storytelling,â said Elba in a statement. âTV is in for a treat.â
The other characters of Guerrilla have not yet been cast, and itâs currently unrevealed which character Elba will portray in the miniseries. Elba is also playing the lead villain in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond.
Ridley is slated to direct the first two episodes of Guerrilla and he is also expected to write the majority of the episodes.
