Dog Songs Album Benefits Pups Affected By Hurricane Harvey

Is there anyone more deserving of a tribute song than a fictional dog? The people behind Dog Songs, a compilation of tunes inspired by famous pups from film, television, and our greater cultural landscape, understand that a dog, even a pretend dog, is just as worthy of a heartfelt composition as any real person. (Or dog. We don’t discriminate.)

Allie Goertz, who contributed an ode to Santa’s Little Helper of The Simpsons fame, announced the concept album Tuesday. It’s available on Bandcamp, where an eight dollar purchase grants you free streaming through the Bandcamp app, plus a high-quality download in the file format of your choice. Just as exciting as the tunes themselves is the motivation behind the album. All proceeds will go to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), specifically to help dogs who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

In addition to Goertz’s own contribution, several comedians with musical talent and beloved bands and artists offered tributes to Daisy from John Wick (Casey Boyd), Clifford the Big Red Dog (The Doubleclicks), and KC Green’s “This is fine” meme (Lucia Fasano), among other beloved canines. Perhaps most touching is “Gary and the Princess,” written and performed in honor of the late Carrie Fisher’s French bulldog by Nerf Herder.

You can follow the hashtag #DogConceptAlbum on Twitter for direct links to individual artists’ contributions and, naturally, dog pictures. Join the growing list of donors and listen to a track or two so you know what you’re in for: the best earworms about adorable pups you’ll ever hear.
