Hugh Jackman owes much of his professional success to landing the role of Wolverine in the very first X-Men live-action film in 2000. Jackman was a late addition to the cast, as he replaced Dougray Scott as Logan/Wolverine and went on to reprise his role in four X-Men sequels and two Wolverine solo movies.
But Jackmanâs superhero journey is slated to end in 2017âs Wolverine 3, as he intends to step down from his iconic role after one last solo adventure. While promoting his newest film, Pan, Jackman was asked to choose his favorite Wolverine moment. And it was a surprising choice, given that it was his shortest appearance to date!
ââI still think that ultimately my favorite moment is the cameo in [X-Men: First Class]. said Jackman. âTo me that just… in about 15 seconds, sums up the character to me.â
The scene in question featured Logan telling the young Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr a.k.a. Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to go f*** themselves when they tried to recruit him for the original X-Men team. It is absolutely one of Wolverineâs funniest moments, and Xavier threw the line back in Loganâs face during the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Jackman also offered some pointed advice to the actor who will take over the role of Wolverine in the future.
“Start training six months out,” related Jackman. “I got the part literally as they were filming. Bryan Singer said, ‘How long do you need to get into shape?’ ‘Three weeks?’ If you look at the film carefully there’s quite a transformation.”
Wolverine 3 is expected to begin production next year.
