After 15 years as Marvelâs most popular mutant character, Hugh Jackman is ready to hang up his claws after Wolverine 3 slashes its way into theaters. But according to Jackman, the only way that heâs reprising his iconic role again is if the Wolverine 3 script meets his very high expectations.
âIâm sounding a little cagey because this is the last time Iâm playing him, and I have just made the commitment to myself, really, and told everyone that until that script is perfect, until it is that perfect way to sign out, Iâm not gonna start shooting,â said Jackman. âSo thatâs why I donât wanna say âYesâ for sure, because until Page 115, 120, whatever it isâ¦â
And as it turns out, the Wolverine 3 script is far from finished.
âIâll be really honest with you, the actual script in its full form weâre up to about Page 60,â noted Jackman. âObviously thereâs a treatment, so itâs not fully done yet, weâre not fully there. Patrick [Stewart] does figure in it thatâs for sure. I think itâs a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas.â
Despite the unfinished script, Jackman reiterated that he plans to film Wolverine 3 next year and he said that heâs already started training for it.
âI really have known for quite a long time how I want to finish this sort of odyssey that Iâve been on, this amazing journey,â related Jackman. âAnd I wonât let it fall anywhere in between. I wonât fall short of it.â
Wolverine 3 is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
