Check Out the New Volume of the HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON Graphic Novel (Exclusive)

Next week marks the release of Dragonvine, the latest installment in the How to Train Your Dragon graphic novel series. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek and, given the storyline and the stunning illustrations, we’re counting down the days till it hits stores.

The HTTYD graphic novels follow Hiccup and Toothless on their beyond-the-screen (both big and small, given the existence of the Netflix series DreamWorks Dragons) adventures. In the new volume, our heroes, along with the other dragon riders, must contend with two deadly threats at once: Dragonvine, a poisonous substance that’s eating up an entire island, and the Silkspanners, an as-yet-unknown dragon species with Spidey-esque powers.

(Yes, Hiccup, we agree: the concept of a web-slinging dragon is bad.)

As with the rest of the series, Dragonvine is cowritten by Dean DeBlois, the writer, director, and producer of the HTTYD films. (He’s joined by Richard Hamilton, a children’s author who contributed to the Trollhunters comic series and is currently working on Scoop.) Since DeBlois is directly involved with the graphic novels–Dragonvine was preceded by 2017’s The Serpent’s Heir–it makes sense that the tales spun (get it?) here will tie into How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. That’s slated for release next March, and what better way to whet our appetites than with stunning visuals, snappy dialogue, and scarier dragons than ever?

(Don’t worry, the dragons are still pretty cute in some circumstances. This series is the gift that keeps on giving.)

Dragonvine hits stores the 22nd. Hopefully this preview will tide you over till then.
