The relationship between humans and dragons has been ever-changing in the How to Train Your Dragon series. Hiccup, the son of the Isle of Berk’s chief Stoick the Vast, made the first step towards a more peaceful relationship between the two species by befriending a Night Fury dragon. That dragon, Toothless, has been by Hiccup’s side through first love, heartbreaking loss, dangerous escapes, and oh so many adventures and hijinks. And with How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, the story of Hiccup and Toothless will come full circle.
DreamWorks Animation released a new trailer for the third installment (and final as far as we know) in the film franchise on Thursday, and it gives us our first look at new enemies, new friends, and a magical new part of this world.
We always figured the final chapter of How to Train Your Dragon would be the most epic, and this taste of the fabled dragon kingdom suggests as such. Granted, being the first human to set foot in such a spectacular realm won’t be Hiccup’s only quest—he’ll also have to protect Toothless and company from an army of ruthless dragon hunters.
And as if that weren’t exciting enough, it seems Toothless is having an adventure of his own… an adventure of the heart, to be specific, as the movie introduces a “Light Fury” with whom our favorite dragon seems to be smitten. All in all, looks like it’s checking a lot of positive boxes.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will arrive in theaters on February 22, 2019.
