How to Project 3D Holograms on Your Smartphone in Less than 10 Minutes

Holograms seem to be all the rage these days, but they are usually promised to us through some high-end technology we can’t get our hands on yet. So when I came across the increasingly viral video from Mrwhosetheboss (inspired by American Hacker) showing how to make a quick and dirty 3D hologram projector for your iPhone or other smartphone, I jumped at the opportunity. And it works!

In less than 10 minutes I had a working projector, and—in the video above—I want to show you how you can also make your own at home or work. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Jewel CD case(s)
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Ruler
  • Box cutters
  • Tape
  • A dark room
  • Links to projector-compatible videos

Note: The demo video works much better if you tilt your phone to landscape. The further the four images are away from the center of the phone, the higher up the hologram appears on the plastic.

Awesome, right? Let me know in the comments below if you got it to work!
