How Does FINDING DORY Fit Into the Grand Unifying Pixar Theory?

Imagine if every Pixar movie took place in the same shared universe. Despite the constant denials from some of Pixar’s key personnel, the idea of a Grand Unifying Pixar Theory has proven to be very popular among fans who have constantly searched for clues and Easter eggs that connect the 17 Pixar films released since 1995. The latest film in the series is Finding Dory, the sequel to Finding Nemo, which just crushed the competition for its second straight weekend. And it hasn’t taken long for the fans to decide how Finding Dory fits in with the Pixar Theory!

The Super Carlin Brothers YouTube channel has posted a new video which offers its take on Finding Dory‘s place in the Pixarverse. And it should be noted that there are definitely spoilers for the film in the video! If you’re not familiar with the Pixar theory, it’s not the rosiest scenario for humanity’s future. WALL-E showed us a world in which humanity had to abandon the Earth, and Pixar theory believers have postulated that the Cars movies represent a glimpse of mechanical life on Earth within the backstory of WALL-E. Finding Dory doesn’t have a direct post apocalyptic connection, but according to this video, it is the next step in animals taking on more human-like qualities and becoming more intelligent.

The key argument of this video is that the underwater creatures of Finding Dory are displaying more exceptional quantities and greater evolution because their contact with humanity has been limited. Although we’re not entirely sure that idea tracks with Hank the Octopus, who basically learns how to drive a truck after his captivity. Dory’s actions in this movie are also adamantly against keeping sea creatures in captivity, which may feed into the Pixar theory’s ongoing three-way conflict between humanity, animals, and machines.

How do you feel about Finding Dory‘s position in the Pixar universe as laid out in this video? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
