HOUSE OF CARDS Nabs SUICIDE SQUAD’s Joel Kinnaman

The hit Netflix series House of Cards has a new cast member. It was announced Monday on the streaming service’s official Twitter account that actor Joel Kinnaman would be joining the cast with a tweet that read, “Welcome to Washington, Joel Kinnaman.” Kinnaman recently starred in the remake of the 1987 film RoboCop and the AMC series The Killing. He’ll appear next as Rick Flagg in the film Suicide Squad. Check out the tweet and the brand new pic of Kinnaman with Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) below.

Other than the picture, we have no information about his character at all. And within the image itself, there is little to go on; He’s wearing a suit, but then, if he’s in Washington, D.C., it’s sort of required. Heck, I’ve seen babies in tiny little baby suits. (Please don’t dress your babies in suits.) It looks like an interview, so could he be a reporter? We all know what Frank does to them.

The thing is, we haven’t even gotten a full trailer for season 4 yet, only the teaser below, which (also) shows us very little. Last season wasn’t exactly a strong one, and coming off of two earlier seasons that shined, we’re anxious to see where this one goes. In addition, showrunner Beau Willimon is leaving after this season (though the show will continue on at least through season 5). This time around, Frank and Claire (Robin Wright) will be joined by Colm Feore as a “high-profile new character” and Neve Campbell in a role as shrouded in mystery as that of Kinnaman’s.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m hoping that the new cast members will up the show’s game a bit. I got through all of last season, but it was a slog. Are you guys still on board with the show? Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and let us know if you’re still watching. Who do you think Kinnaman will play? Does the show still make you crave barbecued chicken? These are burning questions, you guys!

House of Cards returns March 4 on Netflix.
