HORROR HAPPENINGS: Winding Refn to Direct THE NEON DEMON, Adam Wingard’s Next and more!

Happy Sunday, Horror Nerds! Welcome back to “Horror Happenings” where we bring you the latest in horror news even after Halloween. This week there is a lot on the horizon including a new directing gig for You’re Next and The Guest director Adam Wingard plus after trouble with Sony and The Bringing, Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has finally landed on a horror project. All this plus a new project for Guillermo del Toro and Blu-ray and digital release details for one of the best reviewed indie movies of the year, The Guest.

Adam Wingard to Direct Cinemax’s Outcast Pilot, A New Exorcism Drama from The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman

Robert Kirkman, writer of The Walking Dead comic, has another property going to series, this time courtesy of Cinemax. Kirkman’s Outcast was released earlier this summer and cable wasted no time snapping up the rights to the series in order to adapt it for television. Gone Girl‘s Patrick Fugit has been announced as the lead, Kyle Barnes, who is, according to Deadline, “a young man who’s been plagued by possession since he was a child.” Indie horror favorite Adam Wingard will direct the pilot scheduled to air on Cinemax, the home of the off-beat and awesome Steven Soderbergh directed drama The Knick, from a script written by Kirkman himself.

Nicolas Winding Refn to Direct The Neon Demon

After an intense back and forth regarding Sony’s upcoming horror film The Bringing, one of the most anticipated genre scripts in development which placed #7 on the 2014 edition of The Blood List, earlier this year, Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has finally found a horror film to bring to the big screen. Refn will direct The Neon Demon in Los Angeles early next year. Refn co-wrote the script with Mary Laws, a first time screenwriter with a background in playwriting. About the inspiration of The Neon Demon, the controversial filmmaker was quoted as saying, “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.” No word on cast or a projected release date yet.
