HORROR HAPPENINGS: THE BAD BATCH Adds Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves and Greg Nicotero Signs Deal with AMC

Welcome back to Horror Happenings, genre nerds! We hope you’re having an excellent Sunday and to top off the weekend, we’re bringing you some exciting horror news including the star-studded cast for the follow up to A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night from director Ana Lily Amirpour and a big new deal for horror icon and The Walking Dead favorite Greg Nicotero. Let’s get too it!

Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves Join Jason Momoa in Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch

Ana Lily Amirpour, who made her feature film debut writing and directing the critically well received A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, will be bringing the cannibal love story The Bad Batch to the big screen next and she’s adding more stars to the already impressive cast. Jason Momoa will play the lead, a character named Miami Man and Suki Waterhouse has taken the female lead. This week it was announced that Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves and Diego Luna will join the cast, as well. We also learned that VICE will officially co-produce the film alongside Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.

I find it to be a welcome announcement for Carrey who was last seen on the big screen reprising his role of Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber To. I always enjoy when Carrey takes on more serious or off-beat fare and I think it seems that he enjoys it too. Carrey was one of the best parts of Kick-Ass 2, has proven himself in dramas like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind time and time again, and I like the idea of him playing a supporting role in a project like this as opposed to taking the lead (The Number 23 — yikes). Meanwhile, it’s worth noting Reeves’ involvement after having starred in Eli Roth’s Knock Knock which premiered earlier this year at Sundance and recently singing on to Nicolas Winding-Refn’s The Neon Demon, another notable genre project.

Meanwhile, this will be VICE’s first time actually stepping into feature film producing after having worked with Annapurna Pictures on marketing and being featured heavily in Ti West’s 2014 feature The Sacrament. Fans can expect more news on The Bad Batch to come out of Cannes as The Wrap notes that Annapurna Pictures plans on bringing the project to market in May.

Greg Nicotero Signs Major Two Year Deal with AMC

Horror favorite Greg Nicotero has just inked a huge deal with AMC — in addition to continuing to serve as executive producer on The Walking Dead and its upcoming spin-off series currently known as Cobalt, the make up master will develop new projects for the network during the two year agreement.

Nicotero, a two time Emmy winner for his work on the zombie phenomenon, has been with The Walking Dead since the start and has since directed a handful of the episodes in addition to developing and directing the webseries associated with the show. There are no specifics on the types of projects that Nicotero will develop with the cable network but if Galyntine is any indication (he directed the pilot that AMC ultimately passed on) we can assume they will be rooted in sci-fi, horror and adventure.

Are you all excited for what’s to come from Nicotero and AMC? How about the recent additions to the cast of The Bad Batch? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

I think it’s great that Dr, Jim Carrey has agreed to do this new project. I’m also glad that it’s gonna be a Horror/Drama. I want Dr. Carrey to do more dramatic roles.
