Horror Happenings: SUSPIRIA Series Coming to TV From Dario Argento, Syfy Gets Affleck & Damon Pilot and More!

Greetings horror friends and welcome back to Horror Happenings! Here’s hoping you’ve had a wonderful week. We’ve got some interesting genre news coming to you regarding a few TV projects: one original from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and a horror master returning to one of his most beloved properties. Plus, Patton Oswalt has teamed up with 5 Second Films for the horror-comedy Dude Bro Party Massacre 3. Check out the details below!

Dario Argento Returning to Suspiria, Producing a Period TV Show in Europe

We have Hannibal and Bates Motel already on TV and Damien and a slew of other movie-to-television remakes on their way. Now, Dario Argento will produce a twelve episode mystery series in Europe returning him to the world of Suspiria. The 1977 cult classic directed by Argento was based on the book Suspiria de Profundis written by author Thomas De Quincey. According to Deadline, the series will feature the author as the main character playing a Sherlock Holmes-type and will “explore psychological fantasies of evil and attempt to solve fearful mysteries.” It has also been reported that the series will be set in the late-1800’s/ early 1900’s in both Rome and London.

Eastbound & Down and Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green had been trying for years to get a remake of Suspiria off the ground but a new feature film appears to be stuck in development hell. There is no word on if this planned European series will have any kind of effect on a new movie, for better or for worse. There is also no information on if/when the series will be available stateside but something tells me that the popularity of Black Mirror and Sherlock will mean that international fans will gain access to the series soon enough.

Syfy Gets Genre Pilot from Executive Producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon

Fresh off the season one finale of 12 Monkeys, the Syfy original series that was way better than it had any right to be, comes the news that Syfy has ordered a new series from Academy Award winners Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company titled Incorporated. Written by David and Alex Pastor, who will also direct the pilot episode, Incorporated tells the story of Ben Larson, a man living in a dystopian future where corporations have ultimate powers, who is on a mission to save the woman he loves and thereby must confront the system.

Syfy president Dave Howe described the project as, “an electrifying example of what science fiction does best: holding a mirror to present realities and projecting forward to a recognizable future in which we face the impact and consequences of our actions.”
