Horror Happenings Recommends HORROR MOVIE A DAY: THE BOOK

Welcome back to Horror Happenings, scary friends! Have you been enjoying the return of The Walking Dead? Perhaps you hit the theater this weekend and took in the oh-so-divisive drama The Witch? Whatever you did, I hope it was a spooky good time! This week we’re recommending to you a new, must-own book for true horror fans from Birth.Movies.Death. publishing. Let’s get to it!

Birth.Movies.Death. Releases Horror Movie A Day: The Book

It’s a common question asked amongst cinephiles, especially when it is learned that said cinephile is a horror fan: can you recommend a good scary movie? Admittedly, within the horror genre it can be quite a challenge to find a quality flick that you can in good conscience recommend across the board. As we’ve seen with the aforementioned The Witch, for instance, even the well-reviewed period drama can cause outrage and fury in a wide audience. So how do you go about recommending a horror movie to a friend looking to check out something new and potentially expand their genre horizons? Fortunately for us mortals, Birth.Movies.Death. publishing has just released an eBook that answers that very question!

For over six years, author Brian Collins watched and reviewed a different horror movie every single day for his site HorrorMovieADay.com. While he admittedly noted that most of them were total crap, Collins decided to curate a selection of 365 choice films, one for each day of the year, into book form. Horror Movie A Day: The Book has been divided into months of the year with each having a different theme, including “Asian Horror,” “Killer Kids!,” and “Bat Shit Crazy Horror,” just to name a few. Each specific section offers a variety of films within that theme for your viewing enjoyment. Every movie is someone’s favorite movie and perhaps this book will introduce you to yours!

One of the reasons I love this book and recommend it to you, Horror Happenings friends, is because Collins’ goal here is to remind a very polarized audience living in the internet age about what he calls “B+ movies.” These are movies that are pretty good! Not everything has to be The Exorcist or Rosemary’s Baby for it to be worth your while and contribute to refining your well-rounded genre tastes. Think about your favorite movies; do they also happen to be widely regarded as the best movies of all time? Probably not. And that’s what is great about HMAD: Collins is a fan who is looking to encourage you on your quest for genre movie knowledge, not shame you for not having seen something that is somewhat obscure already. So check it out! And tell us: what horror movies would you recommend to a friend? Share your picks in the comments!

Horror Movie A Day: The Book is available for $4.95 through Amazon’s Kindle Direct and features 365 horror film recommendations, one for every day of the year.
