Horror was happening in a big way this week with news about Eli Roth and Jason Blum’s TV series South of Hell apparently finding its lead actress, George A. Romero’s son has taken to Indiegogo to crowdfund the Night of the Living Dead origin story, The X-Files star Gillian Anderson totally wants to join the cast of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, and more! Night of the Living Dead Prequel Indiegogo Campaign Launched by George A. Romero’s Son

Looks like braaaaaains run in the family! George A. Romero’s son, G. Cameron Romero, has taken to crowdfunding to finance the prequel to his father’s groundbreaking 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead. According to Romero, the origin story will take place in the 1960s, shortly before the events of the first film and, according to Cameron, will explain the “origin story of the modern zombie in a way that my father wasn’t able to do so back in 1968.”

Mena Suvari to Star in Eli Roth’s South of Hell TV Series with Blumhouse Television

Earlier this year, we brought you news that Eli Roth would be directing the pilot for South of Hell with a series order set to premiere on WE tv. Now it’s looking like the series, produced by Blumhouse Television and Sonar Entertainment, will star American Horror Story guest star and American Beauty alum Mena Suvari. Suvari is finalizing details to play the lead, a demon hunter who struggles with a demon living inside her herself.

The Evil Dead Collection Coming to Australia and New Zealand in the Coolest Box Set Ever

Attention horror fans in Australia and New Zealand: the definitive Evil Dead collection is coming to Blu-ray in this bomb-looking collection! The set includes The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness and Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead as well. According to ShockTillYouDrop, in addition to unreleased bonus materials, the collection also pays attention to the work of Tom Sullivan, special effects designer and illustrator, who sculpted the Kandarian dagger and Book of the Dead and was responsible for the special effects of the first film. The whole shebang is available from Via Vision Entertainment on November 26, 2014.

Gillian Anderson Wants to Be In The New Ghostbusters Movie

During her Reddit AMA last week, The X-Files alum who was promoting her new sci-fi novel A Vision of Fire, responded enthusiastically at the suggestion that she could join the team of lady-Ghostbusters in Paul Feig’s upcoming film. Said Anderson, “OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, godd***it!” 

Bold, italics and exclamation marks are hers. I could see her being part of the crew! Thoughts?

Cabin Fever Producer Susan Jackson Loses Battle with Cancer

Susan Jackson, co-founder of Freestyle Releasing and executive producer of Eli Roth’s breakout hit Cabin Fever, died last week after losing her battle with breast cancer. Jackson was 54 years old. Freestyle Releasing also produced The Illusionist and The Haunting of Molly Hartley. Jackson is survived by her husband Ben Morahan and THR reports that “[i]n lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara.”
