Horror Happenings: More of Neill Blomkamp’s ALIEN Concept Art and New Images from Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK

Happy New Year from Horror Happenings! We at Nerdist hope you had a wonderful holiday season. But, as we know, horror never sleeps and we have lots of neat photos for you today coming from the likes of Chappie director Neill Blomkamp and the one and only Guillermo del Toro previewing his upcoming gothic romance Crimson Peak. Have a look below!

ICYMI: Neill Blomkamp Shares Alien Concept Art

Chappie is on the way in March 2015, the follow up to Elysium from director Neill Blomkamp. However, before the District 9 director’s third feature hits theaters, Blomkamp shared some incredible Alien concept art via his Instagram account. He captioned the first post, “Was working on this. Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph” and then went on to share additional pieces featuring Ripley and Hicks, adding, “Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created.” Blomkamp did go on to add via what is presumably his Twitter account (it hasn’t been verified) “Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work-” and “They didn’t really even know I was working on it ha.” He added the following day on Instagram, “And Doug Williams – maybe I’ll go back to it ….love the world.” Here’s hoping!

What are your thoughts, genre fans? I love all of the images that he shared and the fact that Ripley and Hicks are still a part of the world. Plus, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and the forthcoming Prometheus 2 feels like it’s on such a separate timeline, I don’t see why a proper Alien 5 can’t co-exist alongside a sister franchise. What about you? Would you be interested in seeing a Neill Blomkamp Alien movie? How about the idea of returning to characters like Ripley and Hicks? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Take Your First Look at the Upcoming Crimson Peak from Mr. Guillermo del Toro

As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t get any better than Guillermo del Toro. I love his work for its jarring and beautiful imagery, a fairy tale element he brings to his projects and everything in between. Crimson Peak, del Toro’s gothic romance staring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, is due out in October of this year. While the flick is still a ways away, Empire Magazine (via Torrilla) has previewed the film with a handful of new images showing the cast in action as well as the incredible house at the center of the story, known as Allerdale Hall. The article mentions that del Toro usual suspects Doug Jones and Javier Botet will be bringing some of the scary creatures to life and Pacific Rim leading man Charlie Hunnam rounds out the cast.

Have a look at the photos below and let us know if you are excited to see del Toro return to his horror roots on the big screen with Crimson Peak!

first thing that came to mind is cable from x-men

  2. Asepto says:

The comic that followed the  Aliens storyline had Hicks and Newt as alien hunters w/ Ripley as mentor! It’s was a hell of a lot more compelling than Aliens3 !

I totally dig the Hicks portrait.
