HORROR HAPPENINGS: Great Horror Campout Kicks Off with FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER Screening and More!

The Great Horror Campout Kicks Off 2015 with Friday the 13th Screening of The Final Chapter

On the second Friday the 13th of 2015, horror fans like myself ascended on the abandoned Old Griffith Park Zoo here in Los Angeles, California for an outdoor screening of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter presented by The Great Horror Campout. For those of you who are unfamiliar, The Great Horror Campout is a 12-hour, overnight, interactive horror camping adventure. Campers can choose their level of engagement when they choose their activities and tent zone so the experience can be an extreme horror adventure or a more mild horror adventure. It’s completely up to the camper. I attended in LA last year and had a total blast. GHC is a must-do for fans of good summer scares.

At the screening, the GHC Headmaster welcomed attendees, hosted Friday the 13th trivia and teased a few updates to the rules this summer’s upcoming Horror Campout experience. Throughout the screening there were monsters who roamed the crowd providing scares off the screen too. In the end, it was the perfect kickoff to Horror Campout 2015!

Tickets for the June 5 & 6 Los Angeles dates are available for purchase now. Last year GHC visited cities all over the country so be sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook for location updates!

November Release Rings Actually A Prequel To The Ring

The Ring sequel no one knew they needed, titled Rings and due out in November of this year, has been confirmed to be a prequel. The film is written by Jacob Aaron Estes, David Loucka and Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (yes, really) with F. Javier Gutiérrez attached to direct. Bloody Disgusting reports that Rings will take place some time before the events in the Gore Verbinski American remake starring Naomi Watts and Martin Henderson. Rings will tell the story of Samara and how her murderous hauntings came to be. The third installment in the American franchise will star Matilda Lutz.

Cary Fukunaga Still Searching For The Perfect Person to Play Pennywise

Sometimes I feel like the two-part feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s It is never going to happen. Don’t get me wrong, everything I’ve ever seen reported on the films, which are set up at New Line and has True Detective director Cary Fukunaga on board, is incredibly positive. New Line wants to do it, Fukunaga wants to do it and King has given it his blessing. But for some reason this damn thing has been in development forever and ever and there is still no official start date on physical production. The last we heard New Line wanted to shoot this summer but based on new comments from Fukunaga himself (see below), I’m not sure if that’s actually going to happen. However, I still choose to believe that it’s totally going to become real one day and maybe finding the perfect person to play Pennywise will be the thing that gets the train moving.

Earlier this month, Fukunaga was quoted in Brazilian newspaper O Globo giving an update on the film which was translated into English by a reader of the site Bloody Disgusting. Here’s what Fukunaga had to say:

“I’ve been in this project for about five years. I had already read versions of the script but nothing felt right. Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two hour movie. It didn’t fit. So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch. This will be my first movie in the US and I’m still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise. It’s really good to know Stephen [King] likes what we did. We [Fukunaga and writers David Kajganich and Chase Palmer] changed names, dates, dynamics, but the spirit is similar to what he’d like to see in cinemas, I think.”

Fingers crossed the movie will be coming sooner rather than later!
