Welcome back to Horror Happenings, friends! Here’s hoping that you had a festive and safe Halloween. We got our first look at the trailer for Eli Roth‘s latest television production as well as Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf preparing to bring Stephen King‘s Misery to Broadway.
First Look at Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf in Broadway Production of Stephen King’s Misery
Recently right here on Nerdist, we celebrated the folks who may not be best known for their horror efforts but their contributions to the genre absolutely changed the game. One such example was veteran comedy actor and director Rob Reiner when he stepped behind the camera to bring Misery to the big screen. Starring James Caan and and Kathy Bates (who won an Oscar for her performance), Misery is based on the novel by Stephen King and tells the story of Paul Sheldon, a novelist who is held captive by his “number one fan” Annie Wilkes.
Back in March, we told you about Willis stepping into the role of Paul Sheldon and Metcalf starring as the “dirty birdie” with a couple of screws loose. The stage adaptation was written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Goldman who also wrote the screenplay for the Rob Reiner film. And for those who are wondering, ankles will be smashed, and according to director Will Frears, it’s something he knows will be in the front of the audience’s mind. The director told Entertainment Weekly, “I feel like peopleâs memories of the film are so extraordinary at this point â or, their memory of their memory, if that makes sense â that it always felt very important to me that you had to give them what they wanted to see. And if youâre giving them what they want, you have to give them the best version of what they want.â
Misery is directed by Will Frears and opens at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 15 in New York City.
