Horror Happenings: A Creepy New Audio Drama From Earbud Theater

Hello horror friends, and welcome back to Horror Happenings! This week we’re bringing you some impressive casting news for Fox’s The Exorcist pilot and a new way to experience tales of terror that might be a little different but well worth your time. Let’s get to it!

Oscar Winner Geena Davis Joins Fox’s Pilot, The Exorcist

So far, Fox’s reimagining of William Peter Blatty‘s novel The Exorcist has only been ordered to pilot. The new series would be a modern day reimagining of the novel and not a straight remake of the revered film. According to The Wrap, Davis would play “Angela Rance, a naturally beautiful, regal and proud woman who is weighed down by stress. Rance does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling.” Also cast are Ben Daniels and Alfonso Herrera playing the two priests who are trying to help one family with their extreme case of demonic possession.

The Exorcist franchise has generated five feature length films and was adapted into a stage production in Los Angeles back in 2012. Poor reviews (I saw it when it opened — it was not particularly good…) prevented it from making a move to Broadway and rumors of a remake swirled before Fox announced they were going to pilot on a series. Several questions emerge when it comes to a network television adaptation of the visceral horror novel, like how will they pull off the risque material and still stay true to the story? While Hannibal certainly pushed the boundaries of network television was able to do in the genre space, will Fox be able to follow suit if the show goes to series? We’ll keep you updated on all the details as they emerge!
