Hooray! Wil Wheaton’s Got a New TV Show and It’s Coming Soon

Aww, we love it when good things happen to members of the extended Nerdist family, and Wil Wheaton certainly fits that bill. The actor/writer/all-around good egg revealed at MegaCon over the weekend that he’s developing a television show of his very own — huzzah! — but took to Google Plus today to further expound upon the announcement.

Though details are scarce — we don’t even know what network the series will air on — he did confirm that we will see Wheaton on TV this summer, starting in May. And, barring any unseen circumstances, the host/writer/producer will stay on the small screen the rest of the year. Ooh! Here’s the good word, straight from the horse’s mouth:

“The network picked us up for 12 episodes, and we’ll start airing in May. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be on your television every week for the rest of the year. This show is really funny, and I can’t wait to get permission from the network to talk about it in more detail.

Today, I met with my entire staff of writers and producers, and I was blown away by the talent and brilliance of the team I’m going to be working with for the next three months (and hopefully the next few years). I wish I could talk about this in more detail, but until I get the go-ahead from the network, know this: For at least 12 weeks this summer, I’ll be coming into your home to share some funny and awesome stuff with you, and I’m really super excited for you to share the experience with me.”

We’re rooting for you, Wheaton! And we’re looking forward to hearing more.

Excited for Wil’s show? Have some ideas on what it could be? Let’s speculate in the comments, shall we?

I thought Wesley would one day get his own Ship. That really saddened me. I say he’d be great in a Starfleet Academy spin off, where he’s an instructor. Yet, unknown to him, he’s destined more that Kirk, Picard, and even Janeway(sp) could imagine.

I keep popping up to that episode where the Blue guy phases in and out of existence, and told Picard he’d be something important … or something like that.

Anyway, my Nerd moment passed. Time for Xanax and whale songs.

  2. Colin McKenney says:

Will we be seeing the cast from Big Bang Theory making guest appearances form time to time ?

  3. John 0331 says:

I would love for it to be TableTopTV. Please don’t take that away from us. But I bet it is something on TNT with his work on 2nd Watch being like an onscreen testing.

  4. John O says:

For those of you worried about table top at the MegaCon panel he also mentioned that he is working on getting funding for another season and is toying with the idea of crowd funding it.

  5. Jodi says:

I can’t wait! Super excited, and I don’t even know what it’s about yet.

  6. Sam says:

I’m with ya, Hubbs! I remember that back from the old days of the Sci Fi channel… when it actually ran Sci Fi shows and movies that didn’t suck quite so much. Hossah for more Wheaton on my TV!

  7. James Hubbs says:

Something similar to Sci-Fi Buzz would be cool. Anyone remember Sci-Fi Buzz? …Anyone? Ya, I’m old.

  8. Diane says:

    Something Science-y I’ll bet. Can’t wait!

  11. Mell says:

I am guessing it will be a table top game show, with celebs playing on an actual network. I just hope whatever it is, it will be available to watch in Canada.

  12. Jeff says:

Congrats to Wil, but srsly if Table Top is done i dont think i could take that. First Film State, then =3, if TT leaves…. my Youtube viewing heart can only take so much hurt. Look what Table Top has done for the gaming community, if Wil can’t continue with it, i feel that Geek & Sundry should find someone to host in his place.

  13. John says:
