Honest Trailers Demolishes WRECK-IT RALPH

Back in 2012, Disney successfully applied the Toy Story treatment to video games in Wreck-It Ralph. Naturally, that’s one of the first things that this week’s Honest Trailers mentions, but the unintended questions of Wreck-It Ralph go far beyond a few thematic similarities with Pixar’s signature hit!

For starters, are the video game writers torturing their creations by giving them tragic backstories? Would a second Fix-It Felix. Jr. machine in the arcade have led to two different Ralphs who had the same existential crisis? And isn’t it all a never-ending cycle of violence for the characters in these games? Much like the mysteries of Inside Out, it’s best not to think about it! Because there really aren’t any good answers.

As noted by the HT team, Wreck-It Ralph beat Hollywood’s video game movie curse by downplaying most of its gaming ties and primarily focusing on Sugar Rush, a fictional game that seemed to be the Toy Story of candy. We have to admit that we would have loved to seen the film explore more of the games in the arcade.

Sarah Silverman’s Vanellope von Schweetz was pretty much “PG Sarah Silverman.” There’s no denying that one. But even the HT can’t find fault with Ralph’s desire to be more than just a bad guy…although they do make it sound much more convoluted than it actually was in the film.

And as a bonus, the end of this week’s Honest Trailer finally finds gives the Awesome Voice Guy (Jon Bailey) something that he refuses to say!
