HOMESTAR RUNNER Returns to Revolutionize Hip Hop

For many of us, Homestar Runner, the site and Flash animated series devoted to the hilarious exploits of a number of memorable and colorful characters, was a weekly (and sometimes daily) staple of the 2000s, but since 2010, the Brothers Chaps, Matt and Mike, the creators and runners of Homestar, have not done much for the site and its immersive world. There was an April Fool’s Day update this year, which many saw as simply a one-off, but in July, Matt Chapman informed the internet in an interview on The Jeff Rubin Show that he would be making new cartoons again, saying “I’m just excited to make these dumb animal characters talk again.”

Well, the wait is over friends! Homestar Runner Dot Com has been updated again, with its first full cartoon in nearly half a decade. And it doesn’t skimp on the stuff we love about the characters and the Chaps’ sense of humor. It features Coach Z and his signature ridiculous speech impediment (which may or may not just be an affectation) coming over to Strong Bad’s for help making a music video for a new Number 1 Jam. The immensely catchy rap song tells us about the use of fisheye lenses in hip hop videos as they proceed to make a video of their own using those selfsame techniques, powered by The Cheat of course. And, without fail, just as everything is going great, Homestar shows up to ruin all the fun, but make the audience laugh.

“Fisheye Lens” right here. Tell us you won’t be listening to it on repeat all day today; we dare you. AND don’t forget to check for Easter eggs once the video finishes. There are two of them and are very worth the hover and click.

We couldn’t be happier that Homestar Runner is back, in whatever capacity. Will we get Sbemails again? Teen Girl Squad? Marzipan’s Answering Machine? Other great music videos? The possibilities are endless! Are you excited? Let us know in the comments below, and tell us your favorite HSR segment, episode, or moment.
