Holmes and Watson Prepare to Face THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE in New Trailer

When they aren’t running around getting into shenanigans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman run around modern day London getting into shenanigans. It’s all about shenanigans, really. On the BBC series Sherlock, Holmes and Watson help the police solves crimes, from murder to blackmail. They’ve even gone up against Holmes’ mortal enemy Moriarty.

Showrunner Steven Moffat has decided to show fans what these two sleuths would look and act like if they were a little more close to the sources material. We will get to see the result of that on January 1 with The Abominable Bride, the first new episode of Sherlock since January of 2014.

This new special finds the duo in 1890s London, the setting of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original series of books. The Abominable Bride seems to be a ghost looking for revenge, and it’s up to Homes and Watson to A) Prove whether ghosts are real or not, and B) find out why a ghost is killing people.

Even though the time is different, everything else is the same. Mrs. Hudson, Inspector Lestrade, and Mary Morstan are all along for the ride. Sherlock’s “mind palace” will be in full effect. Whether it’s the 19th or 21st century, Holmes is always able to drive Watson absolutely mad. My favorite part of this trailer is that we get to see Cumberbatch wear the classic Sherlock Holmes hat, in an UN-IRONIC fashion.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, will air on the BBC, PBS, and select UK theaters January 1. It will be shown in US theaters on January 5 and 6.

So what do you think? Are you ready to see if Cumberbatch’s Sherlock is timeless? Let me know on Twitter, or pull out your magnifying glass and examine more in the comments below.
