Got a youngling or padawan to buy for this holiday season? Nerdist is here to help! Here are 5 (or more) great Star Wars-related books/series for toddlers through tweens:
Origami Yoda, by Tom Angleberger
For middle schoolers with a crafty bend and a penchant for being clever: try Tom Anglebergerâs bestselling series, Origami Yoda.Â
This series is all about what happens when a group of kids come in contact with a seemingly magic origami Yoda puppet. The books unfold (see what I did there?!) in a scrapbook manner, with each chapter written by a different person. As things progress, new Star Wars origami puppets are introduced, and each book includes instructions on how to fold your own Star Wars origami puppets.
Princess Labelmaker to the Rescue and Emperor Pickletine Rides the Bus are the latest in this series. The books even have a legion of fans who call themselves SuperFolders, and they are constantly making their own origami Star Wars puppets and sending pictures of their creations to the author.
Star Wars Origami by Chris Alexander
Not interested in a story, just want to get straight to the folding? Then you should try Star Wars Origami. This book has 36 Star Wars inspired origami projects – from Jawas to Jango Fett, along with lots of Star Wars tidbits in between – it even teaches you how to speak Jawaese. And best of all – the back of the book contains 72 sheets of unique designed folding paper, for you to rip out and use immediately.
The Star Wars Cookbook: Wookie Pies, Clone Scones, and other Galactic Goodies, by Robin Davis and Lara Starr
This cookbook comes with 3 Star Wars themed cookie cutters, and is chock full of yummy recipes like C-3POatmeal Crisps and Jawa Jigglers. Okay, those don’t sound great, I know, they sound punny, but the recipes in this book are solid, fun, and good to make with kids or for older kids to try on their own. Or to make for yourself and eat all of them while you watch the new trailer over and over again.
Younglings are such fresh blank slates, aren’t they? We need to make sure the right stuff gets written on that slate, and that we’re building a solid foundation for learning and appreciating the finer things in life. So therefore I present to you: The Star Wars ABC books from Scholastic.
I mean, you get it, right?
This book is worth buying just to see what they choose for the letter V. I’m not telling.
Star Wars: A Pop Up Guide to the Galaxy
Last but not least, we move from board books for babies to how those of us who saw Star Wars in the theaters used to experience 3D entertainment: The Pop-Up book. Specifically: Star Wars: A Pop Up Guide to the Galaxy by Matthew Reinhart.
Reinhart is a pop-up artist and engineer who designed this book as a celebration of Star Wars at 30. In this edition you’ll find working light sabers, pull tabs, and other interactive delights.  This is not a book you hand to a toddler. Unless you want them to grow up with memories of you yelling CAREFUL!! BE CAREFUL! HEY YOU KNOW WHAT, LET ME DO IT!
Have a happy holiday season and may the force be… oh you know…
