Holiday DIY: SHERLOCK 221B Cookie Snow Globe

Fans of Sherlock Holmes know that 221 B Baker Street is where you’ll find the detective at home. The address itself is almost as famous as it’s resident.

While rereading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works and eagerly awaiting new BBC episodes, you can also bring a little Sherlock to the holidays in cookie form. Fill a plastic snow globe with a gingerbread 221B door and add edible sugar snow for effect. A sweet way to end December for all your Holmies.Sherlock Door Cookie Snowglobe recipe

Sherlock 221B Cookie Snow Globe
ingredients:
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon ground ginger
– 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
– pinch of salt
– 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup brown sugar
– 1 egg
– 3 Tablespoons molasses
– 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
– icing
– sugar crystals
– plastic snow globe

In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and brown sugar until combined.

Add the egg, molasses and vanilla, then slowly add in the dry ingredients just until the dough comes together.

Split the dough into two and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you are ready to use.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep baking sheets with silpats.

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use your cutter* to cut out the shapes and transfer onto the prepped baking sheets.

Bake for 10 minutes, let cool on a wire rack.

Once the cookie are cool use icing to adhere the door to the base. You may have to use a piece of cookie to hold in an upright position.

Fill the globe with sugar crystals, then place onto the base to display.
