HITMAN: AGENT 47 Hits Hard in First Trailer

There are few video game series protagonists as popular as the titular assassin in the Hitman franchise, a title that takes you inside the world of a genetically modified, cloned contract killer. Of course, when you have enhanced DNA and you spend your life making very powerful enemies while working for a shadowy black-ops agency, you’re going to find yourself on the run from all manner of bad guys. Adapted into a film in 2007 starring Timothy Olyphant, the barcoded star assassin of the franchise failed to connect with audiences. But that isn’t enough to keep Agent 47 down. Now, eight years later, the franchise is returning to film for another go in Hitman: Agent 47.

This time around, Agent 47, played by Homeland’s Rupert Friend, is tasked with finding the daughter of the man that created “the agent program” in the first place. The film also stars Zachary Quinto and Hannah Ware, and now the first trailer has been released:

Mostly for the sake of new viewers – other than the concept of a genetically engineered, barcode-tattooed assassin named 47 – there doesn’t appear to be anything too complex from the games being pulled for the big screen that would throw newer audiences. But, where this film appears to succeed is in its star’s ability to completely disappear into the role. In addition, Friend seems very confident in his on-screen presence. It’s cool, it’s creepy, it skilled… but of course that may have something to do with the backing of the trailer’s rendition of “Voodoo Child,” a song that adds excitement to pretty much anything.

For the most part, this a solid trailer that makes us intrigued to see more. The action looks good, Friend looks the part, and Quinto just looks like he’s having some fun. Hopefully, all of that will make for a solid action flick come August.

Hitman: Agent 47 hits theaters August 28th.

video games would be a good source of material if they stopped wiping their asses with the material and making shit versions of them.
