High-End TMNT Casey Jones and Shredder Figures Are So Good They’re Frightening

I’ve always assumed that Casey Jones was meant to be scary-looking. Even though the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics were indeed somewhat satirical and deliberately ridiculous at times, there’s little doubt that a guy who cops his sartorial style from Jason Voorhees and operates as a vigilante is trying to intimidate. Yet in the live-action movies, Elias Koteas and Stephen Amell always seemed like very nice chaps–perhaps because they were required to romance April successfully by movie’s end–and the cartoon-based toys are…cartoony.

Now a new toy company called DreamEX, who clearly want to give Hot Toys a run for their money, have gotten the TMNT license, and they’ve finally made a Casey who seriously looks like a street-smart fighter. Heck, for added mystique, they’ve even made his mask non-removable, though what is removable is a large arsenal of weapons including golf club, hockey stick, cricket bat and more.

Their Shredder, on the other hand, does unmask. And speaking of “the other hand,” he comes with plenty of those, to give you blade-extending options:

DRX10000

Based on a hybrid cartoon/comic look but done realistically, this guy (like Casey) is proof costumes can sometimes be translated accurately from the four-color (or black-and-white) page. Oroku Saki and Casey are presumably the initial offerings because there already are other companies doing the Turtles in this scale, and there’s more opportunity to stand out with these guys. But the Turtles are indeed coming, as well as an in-scale robot body with Krang!

Check out more figure photos in the gallery below, then go preorder Mr. Jones and Mr. Saki if your budget allows. Can you “Foot” the bill for this clan in the making? Let us know your thoughts in comments.
