Here’s Thanos in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Editor’s Note: Warning! There be light spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy in this post. Look away now if you don’t want to know anything about Thanos (although, if you don’t, why did you click on this link?!).

In case you were wondering if you’d get the full Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, this morning Marvel released a still of the Mad Titan in the James Gunn film.

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, it’s not exactly a huge spoiler to say that the Marvel Cinematic U’s big bad only makes a short appearance. Voiced by Josh Brolin, he’s the heavy behind the heavy, bossing around Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) while supplying the Kree zealot with muscle in the form of his adopted daughters Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).

Brolin went in for some performance capture as Thanos in post-production for Guardians, but the brevity of the scene leaves a big old question mark on how the character will move and act when he’s presumably dropped into the middle of the post-Age of Ultron Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s not exactly a character you’d see going toe-to-toe with the Hulk (although he could probably smash Hulk if it came to it), but I’m kind of curious what approach in terms of performance capture Marvel plans to take when it comes to throwing Thanos at the more kinetic characters that have been introduced so far.

The design used here for the character takes its cue from a recent-ish redesign in the comics, giving the purple people killer more gold accents to his armor rather than the tons of body-matching purple he’s rocked for decades. So what do you think? Is this the Thanos you want to see more of? Let us know in the comments below.

Less gold be nice, but still looks good.

  2. Adam says:

I would love to see a Thanos Quest movie where he and a few minions go and get the infinity gems…er, stones…whatever. Just a series of missions into Asgard, Xandar, Knowhere and wherever else the other stones are. You could have the Guardians trying to stop him and failing at every turn and they decide to head to Earth where the last stone is, setting up the third Avengers film. It would be a great way to introduce some new characters, introduce characters to each other and really set the stakes higher for the Infinity Gauntlet story.

  3. Ian says:

Cartoon costumes would just look silly on real people. The redesign looks great, I can’t wait to see him actually do stuff in a movie.

  4. ADP says:

Josh Brolin is all about doing some makeup.

  5. Watson says:

I think The Mad Titan looks awesome, and Brolin’s voice was a great blend of menacing and bad ass. looking forward to seeing how the MCU shakes down.
