Here’s How GAME OF THRONES S6 Begins for Sansa and Theon

For a show as tight-lipped and spoilerphobic as Game of Thrones is, it’s always a bit surprising when someone spills the proverbial beans—no matter how small those metaphorical story legumes may be. So even though we don’t learn a ton about their season-long arc as a whole, it was really surprising to hear Alfie Allen (otherwise known as Theon Greyjoy, a.k.a. Reek) toss a bunch of details around about where season six initially finds him and his sister in escaping, Sansa Stark, a.k.a. Sophie Turner.

Needless to say, there are some hefty spoilers here about the fate of Sansa and Theon following their season five fall and beyond. If you don’t want to know anything, run away from this post right meow!

In an interview with international press in Los Angeles, India’s NewsX quotes Allen as saying that, “At the beginning of (season) six, you find him running through snowy, freezing forests leading the way with Sansa. They’ve just jumped off the wall of Winterfell and now they’re on the run from Ramsay.” Adding that, “Everywhere, all the trees, it’s all done with this amazing snow. And we’re running through and we come to a river and Sansa is just too scared basically to get into the river. So I get in. Don’t believe the press shots!

But that’s not even the half of it—the actor also confirmed a long-held meeting happening at long last: that of Sansa and Brienne of Tarth. After “sacrif[ing] himself, because I guess he hasn’t really got much worth or meaning for himself in the world anymore,” Reek “leads them away — or rather that’s what he’s trying to do.” Only…things do go so smoothly, because it sounds like the Boltons find them right before “Gwendoline Christie turns up as Brienne of Tarth and smashes everyone to shit.”

And that’s not all! According to Allen, Podrick Payne is also still at Brienne’s side, and he “ends up having a fight with this guy and then Theon stabs the guy in the back with the sword. He kills someone for the first time in ages, which must be a gratifying experience.”

All of this, it seems, will bring about even more boss-ass-bitch changes for Sansa, who—according to showrunner Dan Weiss in an interview with Entertainment Weekly—”really delivers this season.” He added that  “this year she gets to go to places she’s never gone.”

“I’m very excited by where Sansa’s storyline is going this season,”echoed writer-producer Bryan Cogman.

“Sansa’s coming into her own and standing up for herself,” Turner added. To which we can only add: fingers crossed! Because Allen’s last quote about the matter didn’t leave us with a ton of hope that would be the case: “Don’t believe the press shots! It looks like she’s trying to get me out of the river, when I’m actually trying to be the strong one and get her in the river. Makes me look weak.”

Hey, Allen: sometimes two people can be strong at the same time. And if one person is strong, that doesn’t automatically mean the other person is weak. Nuance is like, a thing—and it’s a rather large thing when it comes to Thrones.

But what do you think of these Sansa/Reek storyline developments? Let us know in the comments below!
