Henry Simmons Returns for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3

Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie is sticking around for the upcoming third season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.

Mack’s portrayer, Henry Simmons, has been promoted to a series regular on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after appearing in every episode of the second season as a recurring actor. Prior to his role on this series, Simmons appeared in several TV shows including NYPD Blue, Shark, Man Up, and Another World.

Mack joined Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. team between the first and second seasons, and he formed close relationships with Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Hunter (Nick Blood) before revealing himself to be an agent of “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.” alongside Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrianne Palicki).

Mack made his comic book debut in 1988 during the Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. miniseries, but the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series has given the character his biggest spotlight to date. During the season, Mack and Bobbi eventually reconciled with Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Hunter after the merger of the S.H.I.E.L.D. factions, but Bobbi hinted that she wanted out of the spy game in the season finale.

The inclusion of Mack, Bobbi, and Hunter was widely credited as a major part of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s creative revival in the second season. The proposed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff was abandoned by Marvel and ABC, which means that Blood and Palicki will be back alongside Simmons and the recently promoted Luke Mitchell.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for its third season on ABC this fall.
